I received a beautiful blue and grey plaid scarf from one of my coworkers/bosses and immediately knew I had to use some stash yarn to make accessories. Using some Lion Brand Winter Nights in the colorway Chinchilly, I whipped up a quick hat and am now moving on to a set of finger-less mitts to match.
Both patterns are very much me just knitting until it looks right, though I will pull the numbers for the thumb gussets out of my trusty Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns by Ann Budd. This book is basically the secret decoder ring of basic patterns for any size/needle/gauge combo. I highly recommend this one be on any knitters shelf for reference.
