Charm Pack Candy Coasters

I saw this cute tutorial on TikTok and went right downstairs to whip up a set.  I had the perfect number of candy themes squares to make a set of four candy-themed coasters.

The process was very fun and easy, so big thanks to Green Turtle Crafts for the video.  I also recommend perusing the shop, so many cute items!

Project #4 of 2023

Hat and Mitts

I received a beautiful blue and grey plaid scarf from one of my coworkers/bosses and immediately knew I had to use some stash yarn to make accessories.  Using some Lion Brand Winter Nights in the colorway Chinchilly, I whipped up a quick hat and am now moving on to a set of finger-less mitts to match.

Both patterns are very much me just knitting until it looks right, though I will pull the numbers for the thumb gussets out of my trusty Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns by Ann Budd.  This book is basically the secret decoder ring of basic patterns for any size/needle/gauge combo.  I highly recommend this one be on any knitters shelf for reference.

Planner Case

New Year means a new Happy Planner since I still need the tactile activity of a paper planner to make time feel like a real thing.  Usually by the end of the year, my planners are worn and deteriorating from too many rounds of being tossed into bags, cars and desk drawers for 365 days.  To at least delay the inevitable for a bit I made a cute Planner Case.

I used the same method I use for book sleeves, but added a pocket for pens and highlighters.  For a self-drafted pattern (from someone with terrible spacial skills) it fits perfectly and will help contain any spillage from the overwhelming amount of stuff I wind up jamming into this planner over the course of the year.

The fabric is some Snuggle Flannel from JoAnne Fabrics' clearance remnants and some of the many yards of white polar fleece I purchased some time ago for a project that has since flown right out of my consciousness.  Since I want to get through a good chunk of my yarn and fabric stashes, this project was perfect.

Fun Flannel Rice Bags

To start the year off right, the first sewing project of 2023 was some rice bags for the school clinics in which I work.  Using the serger/over lock machine made this feel like the easiest project ever and the simple addition of some scrap grosgrain ribbon for "tags" made the little hot packs look very swishy.  All the fabrics were ends from a napkin making project that required no additional cutting or math, so this was 100% my kind of project.  They turned out very well and have already assisted in several miraculous recoveries among the teens and tweens of our local school district.
